2023 Presidency: Group says Yahaya Bello is best fit, begins nationwide mobilization

A group of people in North Central and North West Nigeria under the aegis of Yahaya Bello Network (YBN), has declared support for the governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello for 2023 presidency.

The group, comprising mostly of entertainers made the declaration at a town hall meeting held in Lokoja on Tuesday. The group also inaugurated its Kogi State chapter.

Although Governor Yahaya Bello is yet to formally declare his intention, the group asked him to do so, saying it has began mobilising Nigerians on his behalf.

Delivering his opening remark, the President of YBN, Abdulamart Mai Kwasherwa, said the group believes that Nigeria is in dire need of a unifier who will harness the diversity of the country for prosperity. He reiterated that having weighed available options, the group concluded that it was time to actualize the not too young to run movement, and Yahaya Bello’s achievement in the areas of security, infrastructure, tolerance, accountability, youth and women inclusion stands him out as the most credible and competent young man with the experience to lead Nigeria.

Mai Kwasherwa said, the problems bedeviling Nigeria today cannot be tackled with the same thoughts that created them, hence their decision to support Yahaya Bello who is tackling insecurity head on in his domain, and because he represents the collective aspiration of young people across Nigeria who eager to proffer solutions.

“Nigeria is in dire need of a young and agile leader with a track-record of credibility and empathy, a leader with vast political and administrative experience, a focused and detribalised leader with friends beyond ethno-religion borders.

“These are qualities we have found in Governor Yahaya Bello, as one leader with strong character of patriotism.” he added.

The Chief of Staff to Kogi State governor, Pharm. Abdulkareem Jamiu Asuku, in his speech appreciated the group of young people for gathering themselves to seek equity and justice, he commended them for taking their time to x-ray several leaders and arriving at the conclusion to support Governor Bello, saying that the governor is appreciative of their effort.

Asuku said, Yahaya Bello is a young leader who is more concerned about the unity, security and overall development of his state and Nigeria, stressing the governor has continued to use his capacity to empower young persons irrespective of tribe, religion or class to actualize the collective desire of having a system where young people are allowed to contribute to decision making.

While giving a historical background to buttress his point, the Chief of Staff said the decision of the group to throw its weight behind Governor Bello is not out of place, being that both demographic and geographical factors in the clamor for “Youth O’clock” and an end to the marginalization of some geopolitical zones in the country favors Yahaya Bello.

He expressed optimism that the governor will replicate what he is doing in terms of security, promoting unity, youth and women empowerment, infrastructure in Kogi State nationwide if supported for 2023 Presidency.
