2027: Foremost Kogi Youth Leader Urges Youths to Be Deliberate, Resolute Ahead of Elections
The Secretary General National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Kogi State Chapter, has called on the youths of the state to remain steadfast, modest, and intentional in their political choices as the state approaches another electoral season.
In a statement issued by the Secretary General, Amb. Abdullahi Ismaila, he expressed concern over the recurring trend where politicians engage youths with temporary inducements during elections, only to abandon them after securing political offices.
According to the statement, “It has become a familiar pattern where certain political actors emerge, particularly from outside the state, offering token financial incentives to influence the decisions of our young people.
Unfortunately, once their objectives are achieved, these same individuals become inaccessible and unaccountable to the very youths who supported them.”
The Youth Leader emphasized that the future of Kogi State should not be compromised for short-term benefits, urging youths to adopt a more informed and strategic approach to political participation.
“Youths must begin to ask critical questions about leadership—who has demonstrated genuine commitment to youth development, who remains accessible beyond election periods, and who possesses a verifiable record of integrity and service,” the statement added.
The Amb.Smile further stressed the need for unity and conscious decision-making among young people, encouraging them to see themselves not as instruments for political gains, but as key stakeholders in the democratic process.
“Your vote is your voice and your power. It must not be traded for momentary gains. Instead, it should reflect your aspirations for sustainable development and accountable governance,” the Coucils Secretary General noted.
The statement concluded with a call for youths across the state to remain vigilant, informed, and committed to shaping a better future for Kogi State through responsible civic engagement.
