A pressure group, Lokoja Advocacy Group has called on political office holders from the area and Kogi West in general to come to the aid of the poor masses in this critical time of Coronavirus Pandemic.

This was contained in a press statement made available to journalists in Lokoja by the group’s Public Relations Officer, Yabagi Mohammed and signed by the Chairman, Comrade Ali Umar Yakubu and the Publicity Secretary, Comrade Iliyasu Zakari. .

The statement specifically called on the Senator representing the constituency, Senator Smart Adeyemi, the member representing Lokoja/Kogi (Kotonkarfe) Federal Constituency, Hon Shaba Ibrahim and the minister of State for the FCT, Dr Ramatu Tijani Aliyu to reach out to the vulnerable members of the constituency.

It did not leave out members representing Lokoja I and II in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon Isa Umar and Hon Idris Ndako, who they asked to do more to ameliorate the plight of their constituents.

In the statement, the group said they see and read about how other politicians, including national and state Assembly members are mobilising resources to provide palliatives for their people, and tasked them to do the same.

Aside these measures, the group want the office holders to be at the forefront of sensitising the public on the preventive measures and sponsoring media messages that would protect the lives of the people from the deadly virus.

“If private citizens and other Non Government related bodies can team up to assist the efforts of both the Federal and State governments in their sensitisation and palliative measures, it is not out of place for all political office holders to do the same,” the statement stressed.

It applauded those who have made sacrifices at this critical time and urged them to sustain the tempo for the society to be able to defeat the monster of a pandemic.
