IBB @80: Gov Bello honours former military President, says he is an inspiration to emerging leaders

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has extolled former military President, General, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), feting him as an icon and a role model worthy of emulation.

The governor, represented by his Deputy, Chief (Dr.) Edward Onoja said these on Monday, at the maiden annual IBB Leadership Lecture and Presentation/Launch of a book, titled: Pyrography of a General, during the 80th birthday celebration of the former military leader in Minna, Niger State, Organized by the Niger Youth Congress.

Governor Bello, who was Chief Launcher of the book, in his address, said the government under the ex-military Leader recorded several achievements in various sectors of its economy.

He saluted the octogenarian for rising to the occasion in his early youth, and stepping up to defend his nation in the army, doing so with gallantry, might, and diligence, until his retirement. He said IBB established a towering legacy in leading the nation which stands the test of time even nearly two and a half decades after.

He described the Celebrant as a thinker and dreamer who even in controversial narratives, inspired others to activate their leadership traits, leading to the popular Babangida Boys ideology.

He remarked that the formation of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT–Abuja, and the consequent creation of Kogi State on 27 August, 1991 leaves indelible traces in the hearts of Nigerians and Kogites, particularly.

He appreciated the ex-military Leader for making governance most accessible to the people and building bridges across various geopolitical zones, whilst announcing him as a source of personal inspiration, whose wise counsel helps him exert his office as Governor with passion, dedication, diligence, and character.

“I join Nigerians and the global stage to wish Your Excellency a Happy Birthday, praying that God adds life to your life, gives you good health, wisdom, and happiness to enjoy it to the fullest. You are fully appreciated,” he said.

Parts of the creme of guests who attended the event were former military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, former Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida, among others.
