Yahaya Bello wins Telegraph ‘Governor of the Year’ Award

Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has been conferred with the New Telegraph’s Governor of the Year Award on Youth Empowerment and inclusive governance.

The Governor who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Jamiu Abdulkareem Asuku and other top government officials received the award at the newspaper’s annual awards in Lagos on November 19.

He said the award will further motivate his administration’s efforts at implementing sustainable youth policies in the state. Bello, who gave the assurance in Lagos, said he accepted the nomination for the award based on the newspaper’s pedigree in the media industry.

The governor is among other eminent Nigerians, who have distinguished themselves in public service as well as the private sector to be honoured by New Telegraph at the 2021 edition of its annual wards. Bello disclosed that he is encouraged by the recognition and considered it invaluable because he neither lobbied for it nor was his selection influenced by anyone. “We have received many awards this year that we have lost count of. But each of them means a lot to my team and I and I want to say the New Telegraph award will galvanize us to do more for Kogi State and Nigeria.

“I want to thank the people of Kogi State for giving me a platform to serve them and other Nigerians. I will be dedicating the award to all young Nigerians, who are desirous of a better and more prosperous nation,” Bello said. He used the opportunity to call for sufficient resources to be devoted towards raising outstanding business leaders among youths as a means of encouraging more innovation in society.
