Gov Bello flags-off empowerment, distribution of agricultural items to women farmers

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has renewed his commitments to ensuring increased opportunities for women while improving easy access to sustainable agricultural production.

He disclosed this through his Deputy, Chief (Dr.) Edward Onoja during the empowerment of women (widows, petty traders, and women with disabilities), and distribution of agricultural seedlings/inputs to women-farmers at the Children’s Amusement Park in Lokoja, on Thursday.

Performing the flag-off on behalf of Governor Bello, Chief Onoja appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for the FG-enabled scheme, under the supervision of the Kogi State Ministry of Women Affairs, saying such a gesture corroborates Governor Bello’s visionary instincts which offer platforms for women to make seismic contributions to the development of the State.

He noted that women bear physical and spiritual importance, urging them on increased prayers for Alhaji Yahaya Bello in the forthcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential polls. He advised them to put the agricultural seedlings/inputs to good use for self-sufficiency and increased productivity.

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Fatima Buba commended Governor Bello for his gender equality interests and prompt release of funding for the program, stating that the value-chain support would contribute to the attainment of government’s desire to ensure access to agricultural investments for Kogi women.

In attendance were the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Hon. Gabriel Olofu; Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. David Apeh; Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Victor Omofaiye; and Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Idris Musa. Wema Bank Manager, Mrs. Chinasa Isaac also disclosed the proposed provision of loan facilities for the women at considerable rates by the bank.
