Kogi APC to put forward best eleven for 2019
Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor, Edward Onoja has said the State Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) would only put forward its best candidates in next year’s general election.
He has therefore encouraged aspirants with capacity and requisite popularity not to be daunted by perceived popularity of other aspirants for the positions they seek, and put forward their agendas and antecedents that would make them suitable for the position.
Onoja spoke on Sunday at his official residence in Lokoja when he played host to stakeholders and other political leaders from Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State who were in Lokoja to make case for the candidature of Ujah Aliwo Anthony also known as Bobby Ujah, who is aspiring to represent Olamaboro Constituency at the Kogi State House of Assembly.
The Chief of Staff was also quick to correct an impression by making it clear that government had no power to anoint any candidate, saying it was only the leader of the party in the state, Governor Yahaya Bello that possessed such power.
He noted that the Governor had been vocal about the kind of candidates the party would back, noting that gone are the days when candidates could be anointed by individuals who think they have the power to dictate to the electorate.
“The leader of the APC in Kogi State, who happens to be our leader as well, in person of Alhaji Yahaya Bello the Executive governor of the state, has been drumming it to everyone’s ears that the party would only field candidates it is sure would make campaigning easy for party.
“For such a candidate to emerge therefore, he must have impeccable records. He must be selfless and exemplary. The candidate must also be a woman or man of the people who has the trust of the public.”
Earlier, Chairman of Anthony Ujah Campaign Organization, Suleiman Malik Babanawa had earlier intimated Onoja that they were in his residence to solicit his support for their candidate.
He described Ujah as a man of high track record, insisting that he would be an easy sell to the people of Olamaboro Local Government Area.
Others who spoke at the event, including Audu Sule also Known as Auze – Mayor, Alhaji Musa Alfa, Isah Emmanuel, Hajiya Maryam Salihu, Ojodomo Joseph Usman and others, all spoke glowingly about the person of Vally Ujah, and solicited for Onoja’s support to ensure his success.
They used the occasion to itemise some of the programmes he had designed that would impact the people of Olamaboro Local Government Area, covering the aged, youths, women, students at all levels of education.
Hajiya Maryam Salihu in particular, was vocal about the need for the encouragement of more women to get involved in politics in view of the critical roles they play during elections. She pleaded that they be given more appointive and elective positions in government.
Speaking in an interview with InsideStory, the aspirant, Ujah Alowo Anthony commended his kinsmen for their show of support for him, stressing that he was committed to serving his people.
He promised to ensure he does his best to lift the party and his constituency forward if given the mandate of flying the APC flag in the 2019 general election.
