2023: Gov Bello plays host to APC state Commissioners of Information and Media Communication Steering Committee

At an event in Glass House, Lokoja, the Kogi State Government played host to PGF media and communication programmes steering committee with honourable commissioners for information of APC States across the country. The conference aimed at addressing the challenges of misinformation and to chart a new course for the APC ahead of the 2023 elections had participants and critical stakeholders in attendance.

The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello represented by his Deputy, Chief Edward David Onoja in his address welcomed all the commissioners for information and other participants from other APC-led states. He commended the commissioners for championing the course of effective and efficient information circulation in their various states.

Edward Onoja, while Speaking, cited the achievements of the New Direction administration under the leadership of Alhaji Yahaya Bello to be that of inclusiveness irrespective of class, ethnicity or religion. He reeled out major achievements of the administration, from gender inclusiveness, empowerment, wealth and job creation and infrastructural development.

Onoja called on the commissioners and other participants to take a tour of most of the infrastructures constructed under this administration in the past six years, particularly projects that captures the thematic scope of the administration.

The Deputy Governor charged the commissioners to enjoy their deliberations and to brainstorm especially on the two bills that were highlighted, where were a bill for “Social Media Crimes (prohibition, prevention etc) act 2022 and the second, a bill for a law to provide for the establishment of the States’ Livestock Management Agency for Animal identification, traceability, registration and other related matters thereto.

Onoja noted that these bills are meant to address the menace of fake news and other criminal acts using social media, while the livestock management agency bill is expected to guide identification. traceability, registration and other livestock related matters in Nigeria to prevent clashes between farmers and herders which has been a recurring decimal in the nation and its resultant effects seen in the ignition of war, conflicts and tribal clashes.

He urged the participants to look into avenues to curb the spread of fake news while commending the commissioners of the progressive government for looking into the issues even as they prepare for the next elections and succeeding government. He therefore charged them to pull all strategies and resources together as a team in securing home the victory for the APC in 2023.

The Kogi state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon Evan, Kingsley Fanwo, who spoke as the host commissioner, welcomed his colleagues and participants from across the 22 states of the APC to Kogi State. He appreciated governor Bello for providing a conducive and secure environment for the citizens of the state and the visitors attending the conference.

Fanwo stated that the conference will allow commissioners the opportunity to look into most of their operational challenges while charting a way forward, assuring that Commissioners in the all-progressive state will continue to play their fundamental role in ensuring that APC emerges in 2023.

In an introductory remarks, the director, planning and strategy, PGF, Folorunso Aluko, noted that the meeting is held to take further discussions on the implementation of the Legacy Documentation and Preservative (LD&P) programme which is aimed primarily to preserve the legacies of the Progressive Governors and is also meant to ensure those legacies are made easily accessible globally for future references.

Aluko speaking further stated that PGF has developed an implementation Strategy for the LD&P and this meeting would review it so it can start off full implementation as soon as possible.

He also noted that for the 2023 General Elections, the meeting will discuss and come up with some proposals to form media strategies for supporting the presidential and other candidates of the APC in the 2023 electioneering while hoping that the APC will consolidate on its status, not only winning the presidency again. but also bringing more States into the Progressive Forum.
