Lokoja LGA Chair, Management Visit Unicane Industries Limited, Charges Company on CSR, Security
Comrade Abdullahi Adamu yesterday led Management Staff of the Local Government and members of the Lokoja LGA transition committee on a working visit to the Unicane Industries Limited in Jamata.
The Caretaker Chairman stated during the interaction with the General Manager, Mr. Najib Abboud that the reason for the visit is firstly, to familiarize and to also discuss areas like the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), collaboration with the local government to curb insecurity around the area and environmental pollution particularly air and water.
The Chairman noted that, although the company has helped in the areas of employment, it has also brought the influx of both good and bad people.
The Director of Local Government Administration, Alhaji Aliyu Musa Omuwa who also spoke highlighted areas like the formation of the Community Development Committee (CDC) and a safer and better arrangement for parking of trucks as against the roadside parking.
The General Manager, Mr. Najib Abboud who hosted the Local Government team stated that the visit is the first time a Chairman from Lokoja LG will be visiting to interact with the company and to see what they are doing. He thanked the Chairman for the initiative which he believes has opened the door for continuous interaction.
Mr. Najib noted that the company have done a lot in terms of CSR and will continue to do so. Some of their interventions he said includes construction of bypass road to Jamata, recruitment and payment of teachers, visiting Doctor and Nurses among many others.
He noted that the company is operating as a Free Trade Zone with 460 staff strength and over 70% of them from Kogi State.
In the aspect of pollution, the Ethanol producing company he said is also interested in safe environment that is why they have a CO2 recovery plant and Bio digester to ensure the environment is not polluted. He assured the Chairman that all the requests would be table before the management for collaboration and synergy.
Unicane Industries Limited is one of the largest ethanol producer on the African continent with state-of-the-art local cassava fermentation-to-distillation 420,000 LPD capacity plant of Extra Neutral Alcohol (ENA) from 100 percent locally sourced raw materials from Kogi, Nasarawa, Benue, Niger, Kaduna etc
