Kogi New Laws will Accelerate Economic Growth, Says Special Adviser on Climate Change

As stakeholders continue to pour encomiums on the Kogi State House of Assembly and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for signing six important bills into law some days ago, the Special Adviser on Climate Change to the Executive Governor, Hon. Michael Onimisi Ajibade, has opined that the new laws would stimulate several relevant sectors for speedy economic growth in the state.

The Special Adviser on Climate Change made the remark at the weekend in a gathering in Okene, while speaking on the government’s recent efforts and its plans to bring about economic growth and advancement in Kogi State.

According to him, the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has demonstrated sufficient willingness not only to enact laws that drive economic advancement but also to work towards the climate change agenda and establish policies that could help reduce vulnerability to climate change.

Speaking further, Hon. Onimisi-Ajibade said plans were ongoing to build resilience, encourage transformative ideas towards low-carbon technology, and actively seek wide-ranging interventions to support the meeting of international obligations on climate change in the state.

“We all know climate change is a big threat to Nigerian food security and has affected both subsistence and commercial farming, causing an increase in diseases and pests that have declined agricultural production. Kogi State is determined to explore every available knowledge to protect its people and their labour from being severely affected.”

“With the commitment of His Excellency to ensure every aspect of his administration works effectively, Kogi State will soon be more self-sufficient in power generation and food production, such that we shall be meeting the needs of other states in the federation,” he predicted.

Hon. Michael Onimisi Ajibade, who is a trained Human Resource Manager, Project Management expert and Media Enthusiast equally commended Governor Ododo for his government’s readiness to have legislative backing and other matters connected to the culture of effective governance, transparency, probity, accountability, and fiscal discipline that the immediate past government of Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello established.
