Kogi Govt Committed to Collaborative Climate Change Mitigation with Global Best Practices

The Special Adviser on Climate Change to the Governor of Kogi State, Hon. Michael Onimisi Ajibade, has declared that the current administration is prepared to implement strategic plans to safeguard the state from climate change hazards.

He made this statement after a meeting with the Special Adviser to the President of Nigeria on National Economic Council (NEC) & Climate Change, Rukaiya Bashir El-Rufai, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Hon. Onimisi Ajibade explained that the visit was initiated as part of a strategic plan to gather knowledge on how to effectively establish sustainable vision and set goals for addressing the devastating impacts of climate change which is common across the globe.

He elucidated the governor’s vision for the state, saying, “Our Governor, Alhaji Ododo Ahmed Usman has a clear vision and is determined to ensure Kogi State is at par with its counterparts and will adopt and implement global best practices and actions on climate change as expected.”

Speaking further, Hon. Ajibade stressed the importance of individual states developing mitigation and resilience strategies specific to their vulnerabilities, adding that every state is vulnerable to climate change, and are meant to identify vulnerabilities and develop strategies to salvage the challenge.

Hon. Ajibade expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to meet with the Presidential Special Adviser on Climate Change, stating, “Yesterday’s meeting at the Presidential Villa was highly interactive, fruitful, and informative. It gave me a deeper understanding of the global and national perspectives on climate change actions and agendas.”

He further noted, “This meeting provided me with an opportunity to engage with other stakeholders on climate change initiatives. I gained valuable insight into areas where Kogi State can collaborate with the Federal Government on environmental sustainability, in line with the Paris Agreement and I can tell Kogi is ready to key in.”
