Youth Leader Condemns Calls for Military Takeover, Flying Russian Flag in Nigeria

Oladele John Nihi, Vice President for West Africa at the Pan-African Youth Union, has voiced serious concerns over recent unrest in Nigeria. The protests, originally part of the #EndBadGovernance movement, have seen some individuals flying the Russian flag and calling for a military takeover.

Nihi denounced these actions as “ridiculous, dangerous, and a threat to the democratic foundations of Nigeria.” He urged all Nigerians, especially the youth, to remain calm and avoid any activities that could further destabilize the country.

Emphasizing the importance of democratic institutions and the rule of law, Nihi expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to address citizens’ grievances through peaceful and constitutional means.

In response to the current challenges, Nihi announced a 2-Day National Youth Dialogue scheduled for October 1-2, 2024. Organized in collaboration with the Forum of Special Advisers on Youth to Governors in Nigeria, the event aims to gather youth delegates from across the nation to discuss and formulate concrete demands for the government.

“I call on our youths to exercise patience and refrain from further protests,” Nihi stated. “Let us work together to find a peaceful solution to the challenges facing our great nation and prioritize the safety, security, and well-being of all citizens.”
