KSU Kabba Opens Portal for Post UTME Screening, to Admit 1,750 Students

The management of Kogi State University (KSU) Kabba has revealed that 1,750 qualified candidates that picked the university as their first choice would be given admission for 2024/2025 academic session.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor KIT Eniola made this known during a press conference held in the campus in Kabba to mark the successful completion of the maiden academic session of the University on Friday.

he said the new university, which commenced academic activities in January 2023, only admitted 1,200 students in its maiden session.

He stated that the intake capacity of the institution has increased to 1,750 students, assuring that qualified candidates that picked the university as their first choice would be given admission into all the programmes of the institution.

The VC also announced that the portal for 2024/2025 admission application and Post UTME screening has been opened for candidates that picked KSU Kabba as their first choice.

“We will considered national merit quota, state merit quota and catchment area quota in giving out our admission” the VC stated.

Prof Eniola defended the pegging of 170 as minimum cut-off marks for the university admission against the 140 benchmark by the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB).

He said reducing the cut off mark below 170 does not speak well of the university, and that he will not yield to the demands of those calling for him to lower the admission score.

The VC said he was aware that the institution should have agreed to the 140 score to attract many students, but doing so will be against the aim of the school in setting high standard.

“Many person have accused us of setting our admission score high, but our aim is not to generate revenue but to produce standard education we can be proud of.

“Setting 170 as admission benchmark is not too high. We understand that as a new institution, we should be concerned about getting many students, but lowering our standard just to attract students will only give the school revenue, and supporting mediocrity.

“Our motto is ‘beating the best, to become the best’. We can only achieve that if we set a high standard from the onset. There are institutions that will not even admit students with less than 200 scores, even while JAMB pegged it at 140,″ he said.

While reeling out some of the achievements the institution has recorded within the one year, the Vice Chancellor Professor Eniola said that the university has made a remarkable achievements especially in the areas of academics, completion of new structures, road network within the campus , provision of adequate security among others.

“Aside these achievements, Pastor Arowosafe donated 50 laptop to the university, the state’s security trust fund donated five motorcycles to enhance our security surveillance while 101 students of this institution have benefited from Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND)”

The Vice Chancellor called on private investors to partner with the university in building hostels for the students through Private Public Partnership (PPP) to serve the challenge of accommodation in the institution.

While expressing his profound gratitude to the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, and the incumbent, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for their supports and contributions for the success of the institution, the Vice Chancellor also appreciated Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones; Provost, Kogi State College of Education (Technical), Mopa, Dr. Victoria Jagboro, Royal Fathers of Kabba, and Okun Development Association (ODA), North America for their immense supports to the university.
