2024 Flood: Kogi SEMA Activates Internally Displaced Persons Camps

Kogi State Government through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has activated Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in readiness for the impending flood following the rising water level of the rivers Niger and Benue.

Already, some flood victims living around riverbank are in camps in Gadumo, St Luke, and others in the various flood prone LGAs.

According to the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Alh Mouktar Atimah, said the State Government under the leadership of Governor Ododo is ever prepared to handle the impending flood in respect of the various warnings from NIMET and other relevant agencies on the occurrence of flood.

“Due to the rising water level we are taking steps to sensitize and advise our people living close to the river area including those at the farm settlements in the flood-prone areas to vacate and go to Government designated IDPs camps immediately”. He added.
