State NECO Coordinator, Newly Appointed COE Ankpa Provost Pay Courtesy Visit to Kogi Poly Rector

The Kogi State Coordinator of the National Examination Council (NECO), Mr Thaddeus Ajabu and the newly appointed Provost of Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa, Dr Paul Femi Fashagba, today, 29th January, 2025, paid separate courtesy visits on the Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman.

The State NECO Coordinator, Mr Ajabu said his visit to the Polytechnic was a continuation of similar visits to other critical stakeholders for sensitization on the need to avoid abbreviation of names of candidates while registering for Senior School Certificate Examination.

He stressed that the sensitization has become necessary due to the fact that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) no longer accepts graduates whose names contain abbreviations.

He also stressed the need for sponsorship of indigent students to register and write the Senior School Certificate Examination.

He therefore, appealed to the Rector and other stakeholders in the Polytechnic to assist in finding solutions to issue of name abbreviation.

Professor Usman in his response appreciated the Coordinator and members of his entourage for the visit and advised that NECO should design a template that would make it difficult for candidates to register with abbreviated names.

He stressed that the Polytechnic has a standing policy of not accepting abbreviated names, except on condition that such abbreviation is followed with an affidavit stating the abbreviated name in full, which would be used to register such students.

He also called for collaboration with NECO for the conduct of promotion examinations for staff as a way of ensuring quality assurance in the Polytechnic.

Similarly, the newly appointed Provost of Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa, Dr. Paul Femi Fashagba, was accompanied on a courtesy visit to the Rector by Kogi State Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Helen Adeniyi and the State Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon Sunday Faleke.

While introducing the Provost, the Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Adeniyi said the essence of the visit was to introduce the new Provost to the Rector for two reasons. The first she said was due to the Rector’s status as an indigene of Ankpa where the College is located. The second, she explained, was the Rector’s experience as a leader in the academic and administration.

She therefore, appealed to the Rector to take Dr Fashagba as his own and guide him to achieve success.

On his part, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Sunday Faleke, appreciated the Rector for receiving the team and praised him for his leadership which has turned the institution around.

He urged him to do all he can to assist Dr Fashagba to succeed as Provost of the College.

On his part, Dr Fashagba applauded Professor Usman for his outstanding records as Rector which he said he had been following with keen interest even when he had not met him before.

He stressed that Professor Usman has proved through his records that he is a leader in both academic and administration who he must emulate to achieve success as Provost.

He therefore, appealed to the Rector to provide all the support that would enable him to succeed.

Professor Usman in his response, appreciated the two Commoners and the new Provost for the visit and promised his support for the new Provost.

He stressed that the outgoing Provost, Dr. M.K Ibrahim is a friend and colleague who he had worked closely with and the relationship translated into the success he has recorded in the College.

He explained that the remodeling of the College clinic, the security of lives and properties, the introduction of Computer Based Test in the College, the building of the new hostels and general environmental improvement were part of the template of achievements of the outing Provost, Dr M.K. Ibrahim.

He urged Dr Fashagba to consolidate on the success of the outgoing Provost to move the College forward.
