The Executive Chairman of Ankpa Local Government Area, Engineer Ademu Muhammed Yahaya, on Monday welcomed the Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals, Hon. Bashir Abubakar Gegu, to Enjema Community for the commissioning of a motorized borehole project.

The project, initiated by the Artisan Miners Association, aims to improve access to clean water and enhance the quality of life for residents. Speaking at the event, Hon. Gegu commended the miners for their initiative, describing it as a significant step toward community development. He emphasized that the project would have a lasting positive impact on the people.

Hon. Gegu, known for his contributions to the development of Kogi State’s natural resources, reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting local initiatives that drive economic growth and social progress. He urged the Artisan Miners to establish a cooperative association, which he said would facilitate better collaboration between the group and the government.

Hon. Gegu assured the miners of the government’s support and pledged to provide an additional borehole for the community. He also reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for artisanal miners to thrive.

In his remarks, the Ankpa Local Government Chairman of the Coal Miners Association, Mr. Aji Yahaya, lauded the government’s support for the mining sector. He stressed the role of artisanal mining in providing employment opportunities, noting that over 20,000 youths are engaged in the industry, thereby reducing crime and fostering economic stability.

“The engagement of these youths in mining has significantly curbed crime, as an idle mind is the devil’s workshop,” Yahaya stated.
