Lokoja LG Chairman Brokers Peace Between Dangote Cement, Oyo-Iwa Community »

Following the grounding of operations of the Dangote Cement PLC for more than 24hrs, the Executive Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area Comrade Abdullahi Adamu has successfully brokered peace between the Company and Oyo-Iwa Community.

The Chairman this morning arrived at Oyo-Iwa after the Monday protest by the host Community which prevented the Cement Company from carrying out operations citing insecurity, neglect and other issues bordering on Corporate Social Responsibilities.

After the briefing at the Palace of HRH Oba Solomon Obahawa, the Baalo of Oyo-Iwa and Paramount ruler of Iwa Land, a Committee was subsequently set up at the instance of the Lokoja Local Government Chairman comprising of the representative of the Oyo-Iwa Community, Dangote Cement PLC and representatives of Security Agencies to discuss the demands of the Community and reach a resolution.

After a 5hr of intensive deliberation, an agreement was reached to end the lock down while commitments were extracted from the Company to meet other demands within a timeframe.

As part of his contribution to the ensure the safety and security of the Community, the Council Chairman promised that the local government would provide some fire arms to local vigilante group to aid their operations. He appealed for continuous dialogue between the Company and the Community.

The Chairman also visited Oshokoshoko Community to douse the tension brewing in the Community following the alleged appointment of the regent of Iwa. He appeal to the traditional ruler to maintain the existing peace and ensure that the Youths do not take the laws into their own hands.
