The Commissioner for Education in Kogi State, Hon. Wemi Jones, FCIB, has outlined the major strides recorded in the state’s education sector under the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. He spoke while addressing participants at the Kogi West Leadership/Political Summit 2025.

Hon. Jones described the progress achieved so far as the product of deliberate planning and sustained investment, noting that the government has remained focused on building an inclusive and resilient education system. According to him, the administration’s approach rests on three pillars—strategic planning, solid legislative backing, and consistent funding—which have collectively driven improvements across basic, secondary, and tertiary education.

He highlighted several gains in Kogi West, including the implementation of the Free Education Policy, extensive renovation and upgrading of public schools, ongoing teacher training programmes, and better welfare for education personnel. He also pointed to the impact of the AGILE project, which is currently delivering modern school facilities across all local government areas in the district, creating new access points and strengthening standards.

The Commissioner noted significant advancements in tertiary education as well, citing renewed investments in Kogi State University, Kabba, and the College of Education, Mopa. He added that the recent relocation of the College of Education to its permanent site has improved its capacity for teacher training and technical education.

According to Hon. Jones, the state government’s investments in infrastructure, security, and learning facilities have made tertiary institutions in Kogi West safer and more conducive for academic work. He said these efforts are positioning the district as an emerging hub for quality education, with model schools and strengthened higher institutions that reflect the administration’s long-term vision.

He concluded by commending Governor Ododo for what he described as strong and consistent leadership, adding that the achievements recorded in Kogi West underscore the government’s commitment to delivering a more equitable and future-ready education system for all.
