Lokoja LG Reaffirms Ban on Crossover Vigils in Isolated Areas, Tyre Burning on New Year’s Eve
The Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State has reaffirmed the temporary ban on crossover vigils held at isolated locations outside the metropolis, as well as the burning of tyres on roads during New Year celebrations.
The Executive Chairman of the council, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu, made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday, citing security and public safety concerns.
According to the chairman, intelligence reports indicate that isolated religious locations, including mountains outside the city, could be targeted by criminal elements, particularly during the yuletide period. He stressed that the restriction on night activities in such areas remains in force.
The council also warned against the practice of burning tyres on roads during New Year’s Eve celebrations, describing it as dangerous to public health and safety, harmful to the environment, and destructive to public property.
Comrade Adamu cautioned that the local government would not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone found violating the bans, noting that enforcement measures have already been put in place.
He urged residents of the local government area to celebrate the New Year responsibly and in a manner that prioritizes safety, cleanliness, and public order.
The chairman concluded by wishing residents a peaceful and safe New Year celebration.
