Groups Tip Edoka for Ankpa Federal Constituency Seat Ahead of 2027 Election

The Special Adviser on Labour Matters to Usman Ahmed Ododo, Comrade Onuh Edoka, is being considered by several groups as a leading contender for the Ankpa Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 House of Representatives election.

Edoka, a former Kogi State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, has gained recognition for his long-standing involvement in labour advocacy and his contributions to workers’ welfare in the state.

According to Jibril Yunusa, during his tenure as chairman of the labour union, Edoka was widely known for championing workers’ rights and promoting industrial harmony. His leadership within the labour movement also saw him serve as National Vice President of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria.

Observers say his experience in labour leadership has positioned him as a potential candidate capable of representing the interests of workers and the wider community at the federal level.
Since his appointment as Special Adviser on Labour Matters by Governor Ododo, Edoka has been involved in strengthening labour–government relations in the state.

His engagement with labour unions has been credited with sustaining industrial peace and improving workers’ welfare, including the prompt payment of salaries and benefits for civil servants.

Beyond labour matters, Edoka has also been associated with several youth empowerment and community development initiatives.

Through various interventions, he has supported education programmes, facilitated employment opportunities and sponsored youths from his constituency to tertiary institutions.

At the grassroots level, Edoka is said to have maintained close ties with traditional institutions, community leaders and cultural organisations across the Ankpa Federal Constituency.

His contributions have also earned him recognition from different organisations. Among the honours he has received are the “Most Outstanding Kogi Special Adviser 2024” award and a commendation from the Nigeria Union of Journalists.

Political observers note that Edoka’s leadership style, which emphasises transparency, accountability and accessibility, has strengthened his support base ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Some groups, including COEWIN and the Third Force movement, have reportedly endorsed him as their preferred candidate for the Ankpa Federal Constituency seat.
Supporters believe that if elected into the House of Representatives, Edoka would leverage his experience in labour relations and grassroots engagement to promote development and effective representation for the constituency.
