Ododo Boosts Women’s Football Development with New Bus for Confluence Queens

In a significant move aimed at revitalising sports development and strengthening women’s football in Kogi State, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has donated a brand-new 32-seater bus to Confluence Queens FC.

The vehicle was officially presented on behalf of the Governor by Kingsley Fanwo, who reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to repositioning sports for sustainable growth and improved competitiveness.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Fanwo acknowledged the operational and financial challenges confronting football clubs across the country, assuring that the Kogi State Government remains committed to addressing the specific needs of Confluence Queens FC.

He noted that the administration is deliberately investing in sports development as part of efforts to restore excellence and strengthen the state’s presence in national competitions.“We are aware of your challenges, and we are working to address them. Sometimes, setbacks such as relegation can inspire a stronger comeback. You must remain focused and determined because this team belongs at the top,” he said.

The Commissioner also urged the players and technical crew to remain disciplined, patient, and committed, while assuring them that issues relating to player welfare, improved camping facilities, and enhanced remuneration are receiving government attention.

According to him, creating a conducive environment for athletes would enable them to concentrate fully on their careers and achieve better results on the pitch.

Fanwo further charged the team to reciprocate the government’s support with improved performances in future competitions.“With this new bus, you can proudly represent Kogi State anywhere in Nigeria. Let your performance reflect your renewed motivation and confidence. When the Governor sees positive results, it will encourage even greater support for the team,” he added.

The symbolic presentation of the bus key was made to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Momoh Steven Azeez, who expressed appreciation to the Governor for the intervention. He described the donation as a morale booster capable of inspiring the players to excel in national competitions.

Also speaking, the club’s Chairman, Abdulmalic Isah, commended the state government for responding to the team’s longstanding transportation needs. He, however, appealed for additional support in the areas of player welfare and funding, citing the financial demands of competing with clubs from other states.

Team Manager, Oluwatosin Ojo, described the gesture as a strong demonstration of the government’s commitment to promoting women’s football and eliminating gender disparity in sports development. She further appealed for the construction of a befitting camp for the players and called for similar intervention for Kogi United FC, the state-owned male football team facing similar challenges.

The donation is widely seen as part of the broader sports development agenda of the Ododo administration, with stakeholders expressing optimism that sustained investment in the sector will improve the performance and national profile of Kogi State teams.
