PAAU, FTH Lokoja Plan Medical Training Partnership »

The Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, and the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Lokoja, are set to strengthen collaboration in medical education, clinical training, research and healthcare delivery.

The Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, Dr Abdulrahman Shehu, made the commitment on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, when he led a delegation on a courtesy and congratulatory visit to the Vice-Chancellor of PAAU, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman.

The visit, held at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office in the Senate Building, was to congratulate Prof. Usman on his appointment as the university’s sixth substantive Vice-Chancellor and commend the progress recorded since he assumed office on February 11, 2026.

Dr Shehu said the teaching hospital was prepared to provide the human and material resources required to support the development of PAAU’s medical programmes.

He also assured the university of the hospital’s readiness to support the clinical training of medical students and provide professional guidance towards the successful production of PAAU’s first set of medical doctors.

To facilitate the proposed collaboration, the Chief Medical Director suggested the establishment of a Joint Advisory Committee comprising representatives of both institutions.

According to him, the committee would engage relevant stakeholders, coordinate collaborative initiatives and help ensure effective implementation of the partnership.

Dr Shehu said the collaboration would strengthen medical education, research, manpower development and healthcare delivery, while contributing to the development of PAAU and Kogi State.

In his response, Prof. Usman thanked the Chief Medical Director and his management team for the visit and expressed the university’s readiness to embrace partnerships capable of advancing teaching, research, clinical training and healthcare services.

The Vice-Chancellor described the proposed partnership as timely and strategic to the growth of the university’s College of Health Sciences.

Prof. Usman also congratulated Dr Shehu on his appointment as the second substantive Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, urging him to build on the achievements of his predecessors through innovation, creativity and purposeful leadership.

The Vice-Chancellor acknowledged the contribution of the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of PAAU, Prof. Marietu Ohunene Tenuche, particularly the foundation laid for the College of Health Sciences and the successful accreditation of its MBBS programme by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

He said the accreditation had positioned the university to train medical professionals and further advance its health sciences programmes.

Prof. Usman also appreciated former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello and the incumbent Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, for their support and commitment to the development of PAAU.

The visit ended with the presentation of copies of the maiden edition of the PAAU Bulletin to the Chief Medical Director by the Vice-Chancellor.
