Communities commend Kogi MIREMCO for role in mining CDA signing with coy
Leaderships of Enjema and Okobo communities have commended the Mineral Resources and Environmental Management Committee (MIREMCO) in Kogi State for its role in the recent Community Development Agreement (CDA) signing with the mining company, Zouma 828.
Enjema Community Leader, Musa Omale, made the commendation on Thursday in a speech he delivered when he led other heads of the communities on a courtesy visit to the Chairman in Kogi State Government House, Lokoja.
Omale, who described the present administration in Kogi State as one sent to ameliorate the sufferings of the people of Kogi State, stressed that they had hitherto given up hope on the possibility of any peaceful resolution to the lingering issue of Community Development Agreement with the company which has been in operation in the area for more than a decade.
He said members of the community are currently happy that such agreement has been signed; stressing the development has given stakeholders reasons to heave a sigh of relief.
According to the community leader, by the gesture of Kogi State MIREMCO in that regard, it has given them reasons to believe in and give their unalloyed support to the administration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
He said Enjema District in Ankpa Local Government Area parade the bulk of figures of voters in council because of its dense population, noting their resolve to give unanimous backing to the administration.
Musa therefore enumerated some of the developmental challenges confronting the area, and noted the issue of electricity, roads, portable water among others as issues requiring urgent government attention.
Speaking, MIREMCO Chairperson in the state, Hassiat Suleiman described the success recorded by her office in the agreement signing as a consequence of her resolve to justify the confidence reposed on her by the administration.
She said the decision of the state government to constitute the Onoja Committee that has been going around all mining sites in the state has helped her appreciate some of the challenges confronting communities where such resources are sighted.
She therefore thanked the present administration in the state for the support it has continued to give to her office which has made her job easy, assuring that her office, the Kogi State Government Committee and the government are working together to ensure that everyone got what is due to them concerning the mineral sector in the state.
