Again: Kogi Governor prevents bloody situation at warehouse
Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, on Monday tactically averted what would have become a bloody situation in the state when youths stormed the Zone 8 warehouse housing relief materials for flood victims in the state.
News broke early Monday morning of youths gathering at the premises of the warehouse with the intention of forcing their way into the premises.
With men of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies stationed at the premises, the atmosphere was tensed and many people feared that the visibly determined youths will eventually clash with security agencies.
In a swift move to take charge of the situation and ensure the sustenance of the peace currently being enjoyed in the state, the Deputy Governor of the state, Edward Onoja drove to the scene, addressed residents and informed them that the materials in the warehouse are meant for flood victims in the state.
Onoja, however, announced that Governor Bello has directed that residents be granted access into the warehouse but plead that they take foodstuffs only, leaving building materials for the intended beneficiaries – flood victims.
The Deputy Governor then led the youths to the warehouse with the chant of ‘GYB GYB GYB’.
The situation is however calm as at the time of filing in this report.
