Aminu Maida Highlights Telecom Reforms, Innovation Drive at Enugu Tech Festival
The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Dr. Aminu Maida, has reaffirmed the Commission’s steadfast commitment to advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
Dr. Maida made this known at the recently concluded Enugu Tech Festival, where he described the gathering as a vital platform for showcasing innovation, creativity, and the remarkable progress within Nigeria’s technology ecosystem. He noted that the dynamic atmosphere and diverse technological solutions presented at the event underscore the country’s steady transition toward a digitally driven economy.
He emphasized that Nigeria holds significant potential to enhance its global competitiveness through a responsive and evolving regulatory framework—one that promotes innovation while safeguarding consumer interests. According to him, the growth recorded in the telecommunications sector is the result of deliberate reforms, forward-looking policies, and institutional frameworks designed to stimulate competition, attract investment, and ensure consumer protection.
Dr. Maida also commended the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, for articulating a clear and strategic roadmap for digital acceleration in the state, describing the initiatives as both commendable and well aligned with the national digitalisation agenda.
He further disclosed that the Commission, in collaboration with key stakeholders, is currently reviewing the National Telecommunications Policy (2000) with a view to developing a modern, inclusive, and consumer-focused framework. The revised policy, he explained, will address emerging technologies and evolving innovation trends, ensuring that the sector remains resilient and future-ready.
Dr. Maida equally lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, implemented through the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani. He noted that sustained policy support under the current administration has contributed to Nigeria surpassing 179 million active mobile lines, reflecting the impact of consistent reforms and strategic leadership in the sector.
He assured stakeholders that the Commission will continue to foster an enabling environment that supports investment, drives innovation, and promotes inclusive digital growth nationwide.
