Ankpa Council Chairman Orders Immediate Suspension of Coal Mining Activities

The Executive Chairman of Ankpa Local Government Area, Hon. Engr. Ademu Mohammed Yahaya, has ordered an immediate halt to all coal mining activities within the area.
The directive, which is contained in a statement signed by the Chairman and made available to journalists takes effect immediately. The directive was issued over rising concerns about environmental degradation and health risks linked to ongoing mining operations. The Chairman emphasized that the suspension is necessary to ensure strict adherence to regulatory standards and awaits further instructions from the Kogi State Governor.
“All mining activities must stop immediately. This decision is driven by the urgent need to protect lives and our environment from the immediate and long-term hazards of unregulated mining,” Hon. Yahaya stated.
To enforce the ban, all security agencies have been mobilized to maintain a 24-hour surveillance across mining sites in the local government. Residents and stakeholders have been urged to comply fully with the directive, as defaulters will face serious consequences.
