Armed Forces Day 2026: Gov. Ododo Honours Fallen Heroes, Commends Security Agencies

The Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has paid glowing tribute to Nigeria’s fallen heroes, describing their sacrifices as the foundation of the peace and unity the nation enjoys today.

Speaking at the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony held in Lokoja on Thursday, Governor Ododo represented by his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu, said the day is a solemn reminder of the bravery and selflessness of men and women who gave their lives in defence of the country.

“Their sacrifice must never be forgotten. They left their homes, faced danger, and many did not return, so that we can live in peace and freedom,” the Governor said.

He expressed deep sympathy to the families of fallen soldiers, especially widows, children, and parents, assuring them that their pain is acknowledged and their sacrifices are honoured by both the government and people of Kogi State.

Governor Ododo also praised serving officers and men of the Armed Forces for their courage and dedication, describing them as the living shield of the nation who risk their lives daily to protect citizens.

The Governor commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his firm leadership and commitment to national security. He also applauded the Service Chiefs for recent successes recorded in the fight against insecurity across Nigeria, including Kogi State.

Special appreciation was extended to the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Kogi State for flushing out criminal elements and safeguarding lives and property. Governor Ododo also praised the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Lugard, alongside other security agencies, for securing waterways and strengthening internal security in the state.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting veterans, improving security collaboration, and ensuring the welfare of those who serve the nation.

“Peace is not free; it is earned through sacrifice. The best way to honour our fallen heroes is to reject crime, promote unity, and support our security agencies,” the Governor said.

He called on citizens to embrace peace and security, urging all to say no to kidnapping, banditry, and terrorism.

Governor Ododo concluded by praying for the souls of fallen heroes and for continued protection and strength for Nigeria’s Armed Forces.
