Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has announced the extension of the state’s health insurance scheme to widows of military personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Governor Ododo made this announcement during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony held at the World War II Cenotaph in Lokoja. The event, attended by top government officials, military officers, traditional rulers, and families of fallen soldiers, was marked by solemn tributes and the laying of wreaths in honor of Nigeria’s gallant servicemen.
Governor Ododo emphasized the importance of recognizing and supporting the families left behind by the nation’s heroes. He noted that the health insurance initiative aims to alleviate the financial burdens of widows by granting them access to quality healthcare services.
“Our fallen heroes paid the supreme price for the peace and security we enjoy today. It is our responsibility to ensure that their families, especially their widows, are not left to struggle alone. By extending the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme to these women, we are offering not just healthcare but also hope and comfort,” Governor Ododo stated.
He further reassured the families of fallen soldiers of his administration’s commitment to their welfare and well-being, promising that more empowerment programs would be introduced to support them.
The governor also commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their relentless efforts in safeguarding the nation against insurgency, banditry, and other security threats. “I pledge my continued support to the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and we stand to support the wives and children of our Fallen Heroes in the provision of Free Healthcare through the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme ” he said.
He commended the president of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to the peace unity and security of the country, adding that his support for the military is a significant morale boost to the fight against insecurity in the country.
He called on citizens to continue supporting security agencies through cooperation and intelligence sharing.
In response, representatives of the widows expressed deep gratitude to the governor for the kind gesture, describing it as a timely intervention that would greatly impact their lives.
