Commissioner Urges Kogi Youths to Shun Planned Nationwide Protest

The Kogi State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Hon. Monday Aridaojo Anyebe, has appealed to youths of the state to dissociate themselves from the proposed nationwide protest against President Tinubu and await federal government’s response to their concerns.

Hon. Anyebe made this call on Thursday in his office during a meeting with youths and students leaders in the state.

The Commissioner noted that Tinubu was not unaware of the voices of young Nigerians, and working diligently to address their grievances.

He said the governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo is also working in line with his consolidation mandate to improve the standard of living for all Kogites.

“Our Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo is also not unaware of the yearning of the youths, it remains tops on his priority list and he doesn’t spare any opportunity to remind Mr. President.

“On his own, he continues to invest heavily in youth development and inclusiveness, students welfare, agriculture and security. The recent payment of backlog of subvention owed to youth groups, the reintroduction of bursary allowance to students along with the appointment of young people into government are all testaments to his commitment to youths and students welfare.

“Governor Ododo also took proactive steps in the agric sector by investing over 7 Billion Naira in farm implements with over 100 tractors to cultivate 7,324 hectares by about 10,000 farmers across the 21 local government areas in the state in the current farming season. This investment in agriculture is a critical step towards poverty eradication in the state, and to make Kogi a leading state in agricultural production and contribute to the development of Nigeria’s economy,” he stated.

Hon. Anyebe noted that instead of protesting on streets which could easily be hijacked by unknown elements who don’t mean well for the state, the government has planned a two-day Youth Engagement Summit starting on the 29th of August to engage with youths and chart a productive way forward for the state.

He implored the youths and students to continue in their support for the APC administration and continue to trust in the process, adding that the reforms of the current administration will take time but will soon start to suffice, including a reversal of inflation and stabilisation of the economy.

The youths and students leader in their responses agreed with the submission of the Commissioner and promised not to participate in the protest. They agreed that the administration of Governor Ododo is performing excellently and assured of their continue support to the administration which they described as “Youth-friendly”.
