Council polls: KGSG declares Friday as public holiday, charge SIEC, Security Agency to conduct free, fair election

As part of preparations towards the Saturday Local Government election, the Kogi State Government has declared Friday, 11th of December as public Holidays to enable workers travel for council poll.

This was made known on Thursday in a Press Release by the State’s Commisioner for Information, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo.

He said “The Kogi State Government has declared Friday 11th December, 2020 as work-free day to enable Civil Servants travel to their towns and villages for the December 12, 2020 Local Government election in the State.

The directive was given to enable civil servants exercise their right to vote and participate in the political determination of how their Local Government Areas are governed”

He pointed out that such was a further confirmation of the commitment of the Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration to deepening democratic practice and tenets.

He added that the State Government has already charged the State Independent Electoral Commission to ensure free, fair and credible poll noting that security agencies have also been urged to ensure strict adherence to constitutionalism, before, during and after the election.

He noted that as a Government, franchise is a festival of freedom using the medium to urge citizens to come out enmasse to determine those who will govern the grassroots Government for the next three years.
