Democracy Day: Be Better, Do Better for Your Country, Amb Nihi Tasks Youth Leaders
In commemoration of the June 12th Democracy Day celebration in Nigeria, Oladele Nihi, the Vice President of the Pan-African Youth Union (PYU), takes a moment to reflect on the nation’s democratic journey, highlighting the significant roles played by notable youth leaders of the past in achieving the democracy celebrated today.
Stating in the release made available to the Press from his Lokoja residence on Monday 12th June, Nihi implored the new generation of youth leaders to be better and do better, emphasizing the importance of their contribution in shaping a brighter future for the country.
“Nigeria’s transition to democracy stands as a remarkable chapter in its history, achieved through the relentless efforts and sacrifices of countless individuals, particularly the youth leaders who spearheaded the struggle.
“As it is a day for the celebration of Democracy, let us raise a toast in remembrance of our heroes past, the likes of MKO Abiola, Gani Fawehinmi and a host of others, for the sacrifices they made for us to be here today.”
The PYU Vice President emphasizes the imperative for the new generation of youth to seize leadership opportunities and serve their country deligently.
“To the vibrant and ambitious youth and leaders of our great nation, I enjoin you to seize leadership opportunities with both hands and strive for excellence in service to Nigeria.
“Our predecessors have paved the way, with tears, pain and blood, making immense sacrifices for the democracy we enjoy today.
Continuing, Nihi says “It is now our responsibility to build upon their legacy and shape a future that surpasses our wildest dreams.”
He implores the youth to harness the power of unity, embrace diversity, and let their dedication to progress and justice guide their path.
Quoting Nihi, he states, “Democracy is not just a system of governance; it is an embodiment of hope and the collective voice of the people. As young Nigerians, we must protect and cherish the ideals of democracy, for it is the bedrock of our nation’s progress and prosperity.”
Nihi affirms that the Pan-African Youth Union stands in solidarity with the youth of Nigeria, urging them to rise above challenges and work towards a Nigeria that upholds the principles of democracy, justice, and equality.
