Democracy Day: What unites us as a people supersedes what divides us – Hon. Abdulraheem Abdulmaleek Danga

Democracy, according to Abraham Lincoln is defined as Government of the people for the people and by the people. The import of this is that democracy is a Government that must reveal the wishes of the majority while not abandoning the best wishes of the minority, hence it is indeed a struggle but one that is being improved upon from time to time to reflect the best wishes of the people in general. It is my special appeal to us all as a people to continue to uphold the tenets of democracy.

On this very special occasion of Democracy Day celebration, I urge us all as a people bound by a common destiny in our Constituency and Nationhood journey to continue to live up to our highest and best ideals, we must use this day to recommit ourselves to the founding ideals of our heroes-past that fought to make democracy a reality in Nigeria.

We must continue to stand for justice and the rule of law, for free speech, free assembly, a free press, freedom of religion, and for all the inherent human rights of every individual as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

Signed:

Honourable Abdulraheem Abdulmaleek Danga,
Member-elect for Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency,
10th House Of Representatives
