Drama in Court as Prosecution Calls Yahaya Bello’s Case Political

During the proceedings, the prosecution counsel, Prof. Kemi Pinhero, SAN, described the case involving Yahaya Bello and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as a political matter. He emphasized that he was not prosecuting a bank official but a political figure, one who had even aspired to contest for the presidency.

This remark was made during arguments over whether the defense counsel would proceed with the cross-examination of the witness after the prosecution concluded its examination at 2:38 p.m., or whether the matter should be adjourned.

In response to Pinhero’s comment, the presiding judge, Justice Emeka Nwite, interjected: “Political? If that is the case, then those handling political cases should prepare to take over the matter.”

The court subsequently adjourned the case to June 27, 2025, for continuation of hearing.
