Edo State Government Boosts Health Sector Reforms with Recruitment of Over 700 Healthcare Professionals
Edo State Government has taken a step towards improving healthcare services to its citizens by commencing the recruitment of over 700 healthcare practitioners. This recruitment drive is in line with the ongoing reforms in the health sector by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration.
Speaking to journalists during the computer-based test held at the Edo State Secretariat Complex, Benin City, the Executive Secretary of Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Omosigho Izedonmwen, expressed his satisfaction with the recruitment process.
The recruitment process aims to bring on board 720 professionals, including doctors, nurses, community extension workers, and administrators, among others, to strengthen the primary healthcare system. Izedonmwen stated that “this computer-based test is the first stage of the recruitment process. As part of the criteria, they must be computer literate because the primary healthcare development agency will be driven by technology.”
He added that those who pass the computer-based test will undergo an oral interview, and successful candidates will be placed in at most three weeks’ time. The Edo State government hopes to have the new healthcare professionals on board towards the end of April.
The recruitment drive aims to ensure that at least one fully functional primary health center is available in every ward in the state, with all necessary infrastructure, technology, personnel, and resources. The state currently has 497 primary healthcare centers, and the government aims to increase this number to 192 fully functional centers.
With this recruitment drive, the Edo State government is demonstrating its commitment to improving healthcare services to its citizens, and it is a significant step towards achieving the ongoing healthcare reforms.
