EDUCATION: Kogi Deputy Speaker holds strategic meeting with Ibaji Traditional Council »

The Deputy Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly and Member Representing Ibaji Constituency, Rt. Hon. Comfort Ojoma Nwuchola Egwaba on Wednesday held a crucial and strategic meeting with the Ibaji Traditional council as part of her effort to follow up on the possible approach of reinventing the conversation of Ibaji Educational System.

The lawmaker thanked the traditional rulers under the leadership of HRH, Hon. Dr. Chief John Odiche Egwemi for coming out in their numbers to participate in the town hall meeting and reception in her honour.

While addressing the Traditional Council members, Rt. Hon. Comfort said part of her visit to the council of chiefs is to follow up with the resolution met during the town hall meeting particularly in the area of education, noting that the traditional rulers have vital roles to play in the quest to revitalize the decayed system of education in Ibaji and has come to discuss with them on the new route to achieving the set goal.

Reacting, HRH, Chief John Egwemi, the Ejeh of Ibaji and Chairman, Ibaji Traditional Council applauded the Deputy Speaker for taking the bull by the horn and for swinging in to action to ensure that we start feeling the impact of the town hall meetings in the various communities. The Ejeh Ibaji promised the lawmakers of his unalloyed support in the actualization of her campaign promises to the people of Ibaji Constituency. He prayed for long life and the wisdom that will sustain her to maintain the tempo as the people’s representative.

Further more, the Ajibo of Unale, Chief Samual Udalor appreciate the lawmakers for her proactiveness and the desires to bring back the lost glory of Ibaji LGA. In total agreement and support for the initiative of the Deputy Speaker, Chief Udalor suggested that a Committee comprising of the opinion leaders of Ibaji LGA be set up so that everyone will be actively involved in making the initiative achievable.

The Onu Iyano, Chief Moses Atule commended the Deputy Speaker and promised that efforts will be made to ensure that the schools in Iyano start functioning As Soon As Possible as steps are already taking by the community in that direction.

Chief Linus Ajodo, the Onu Omabo eulogies the Deputy Speaker for the show of concern for the Education of the children of Ibaji Constituency. He added that ” Our children go to Idah, Edo, Anambra states and other places to get an education. Due to lengthened periods outside our residents, this children fail to learn about our heritage, customs and traditions which is a danger to sustaining of our culture for the future.”

Chief Linus seconded to the idea of setting up the Committee and that there should be a serious sensitization to ensure that parents comply with the initiative by bring back their wards home for school especially the primary schools age children. He sated further “We have those of Ibaji extraction who start their early educational pursue in Ibaji that are now professors. We can create such platform for the younger generation too”

The Doga of Echeno, Chief Vicent O Ajodo said it’s unfortunate that most of our children at Idah and other places in the name of schooling are not doing the expected because there are no parental monitoring and supervision.
He suggested that the Committee should comprise of the chiefs, Community leaders, Gagos, and Government Representatives and there should be a fine for any family or parent that fail to comply to the subject of interest.

The Transition Committee Chairman, Ibaji LGA said the government can’t make policies and enforce it without the corporation of the traditional rulers as such the traditional rulers should belt up to ensure that this initiative fly. He also urge the Traditional leaders to make the security of lives and properties of their people a priority.
