First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu distributes N100,000 to senior citizens in Kogi
The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has put smiles on the faces of indigent elderly women across the 21 local government areas of Kogi state by giving out millions of naira to alleviate the burdens on elders during this festive period.
The First Lady said it becomes very important to acknowledge the unique encounters faced by elderly citizens, and their contributions to the nation. She made this remark on Thursday December 21st at the maiden edition of the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS), held in Lokoja the state capital.
Represented by the First Lady of Kogi State, Mrs. Rashida Bello, who gave out One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000) each to 250 beneficiaries across the 21 local government areas of the state, said the economic empowerment programme is borne out of a steadfast commitment to the well-being of senior citizens and it marks a significant stride in the government’s collective pursuit of a more inclusive and compassionate society.
The First Lady used the avenue to urge senior citizens to embrace life to the fullest, prioritize their health, nurture their minds, and strengthen bonds with loved ones and with God; stressing that those were the keys to a rich and fulfilling life in their golden years.
Mrs. Tinubu who appreciated the Kogi First Lady, Mrs. Rashida Bello, and partners for their support in ensuring the success of this programme, also sought for prayers for the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
In their separate goodwill messages, The Part time Board Chairperson for KOSACA, Pastor Mrs Roseline Alabi, and the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Yahaya Bello on Electronic Media, Hon. Avoyi Nwogu, commended the Senator Oluremi Tinubu for laying a solid foundation by caring for the elderly. They expressed confidence that the woman would utilize the funds to better their lives and health.
The women leader of Okene local government area who spoke on behalf of other eneficiaries appreciated the First Lady for caring for the elderly. She said the amount recieved is unprecedented, assuring that they would utilize it to take proper care of themselves especially their health and invest some in their businesses.
The maiden edition of Elderly Support Scheme of the Renewed Hope Initiative is to support Two Hundred and Fifty (250) vulnerable elderly citizens aged 65 and above in all 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory, and veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA).
