Former PDP Governorship Aspirant in Nasarawa Quits Party
Former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State, David Emmanuel Ombugadu, has formally resigned from the party, citing persistent internal disagreements and leadership crises as the primary reasons for his decision.
According to InsideStory news, Ombugadu conveyed his resignation in a letter dated February 28, 2026, addressed to the Ward Chairman of Ika Wangibi Ward in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area. In the correspondence, he announced his immediate withdrawal from the PDP, explaining that the move followed extensive consultations with his political associates and supporters. He described the decision as difficult but necessary in order to define his political future and chart a clearer course.
Ombugadu, who previously served as a lawmaker and flew the PDP flag in the 2023 governorship election in Nasarawa State, expressed appreciation to the party for the platform it provided him to contribute to the development of the state and the nation. He urged party officials to treat his letter as formal confirmation of the termination of his membership.
Meanwhile, political realignments continue to reshape the landscape in Adamawa State. The son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Adamu Atiku, has reportedly declined to follow Governor Ahmadu Fintiri in defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Fintiri had earlier announced his departure from the PDP to the APC alongside 22 of the 24 commissioners in his cabinet during a statewide broadcast at the Government House. However, Adamu Atiku, who serves as Commissioner for Works and Energy Development, and the Commissioner for Livestock, Maksha Atiku, were absent at the official declaration, signaling a split within the state’s political leadership.
