Gov. Bello Launches 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem, harps on Unity

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State on Wednesday launched the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem and Appeal Fund for the State Legion of Ex – Servicemen with a personal donation of N10 million. He called on individuals and groups to always make contributions to the legion, promising that he would continue to do his best in providing support to the families of fallen heroes.

In a ceremony held in Lokoja on Wednesday, Governor Bello said the occasion signifies the appreciation for the sacrifices made by officers and men in the line of duty to safeguard Nigeria, and to remind everyone of the desired unity and togetherness of the country.

He said Kogi State recognizes and appreciates all the sacrifices which in some cases included paying the supreme price for the coexistence of the nation, adding that it becomes dutiful to commit to the emblem launch and the annual remembrance day which is the 15h of January.

Bello further stressed that he is aware of the hazardous nature of providing security to the country especially with, sometimes very little or no motivation, noting it is borne out of the officers patriotism, love and desire for the country to remain one. He added that every stakeholder must show sincerity in attending to the needs of the service men.

He revealed that Kogi State is adjudged to be the safest state in Nigeria not because it created a new police or armed forces, but that it is a result of cooperation and sacrifice from all stakeholders, and the firm decision of the government to prioritize security. “The contribution of the armed forces to securing the state is a testimony to the peace and security being witnessed.

“In furtherance of our government’s recognition for the fallen heroes, we have also shown sincerity in reaching out to the veterans through contributions and provision of monthly subvention to the 21 local government chapters.” he added.

Earlier, Chairman of the Kogi State chapter of Nigeria Legion of Ex-servicemen, Warrant Officer David Salawu Rtd, appreciated Governor Yahaya Bello for his support to the legion, describing as the best among his colleagues.

Other speakers including Mrs. Morenike Henry, Director cooporate affairs, Nigeria legion headquarters, the State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara all spoke highly of the governor’s commitment to the welfare of ex-service men and the families of fallen heroes.

Meanwhile, Governor Bello presented keys to two houses in Abuja to the wives of his late police escort out rider, Inspector Aminu Salihu who died in active duty.
