Gov Ododo Flags Off Community Security Public Awareness Engagement in Olamaboro

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has flagged off a Community Security and Public Awareness Engagement in Okpo, Olamaboro Local Government Area, in a strategic move to strengthen grassroots security and foster community involvement in crime prevention.

The initiative, launched under the governor’s Renewed Hope mandate, was formally introduced by the Zonal Security Adviser to the Governor for the Ankpa Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Mohammed. The event brought together traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth and women groups, security stakeholders, and residents from across the area.

Addressing attendees, Hon. Mohammed emphasized that the objective of the program is to promote collaborative security efforts between communities and security agencies. He described the engagement as a proactive step toward ensuring peace, safety, and trust in rural and urban communities alike.

“The strength of our communities lies not just in the number of security personnel we deploy, but in the quality of the trust, unity, and collaboration we build among ourselves,” he stated.

He highlighted key focus areas of the initiative, including intelligence sharing, early warning systems, identification of suspicious activity, and fostering a culture of peace and tolerance.

According to him, the security engagement is not meant to lecture the people, but to encourage dialogue and collective problem-solving tailored to local realities.

While acknowledging the unique security challenges within the Ankpa Federal Axis—such as youth restiveness and isolated criminal incidents—Hon. Mohammed also pointed to the region’s potential for resilience and community-driven vigilance.

He commended traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth, and women for their continued role as frontline actors in maintaining security at the local level, calling them “unsung heroes of our local security architecture.”

He concluded by reaffirming Governor Ododo’s commitment to ensuring that no part of Kogi State is left behind in the administration’s vision for a safe and prosperous state.

The event is expected to serve as a model for similar security engagements across the state.
