Gov Ododo Mourns Victims of Lokoja-Obajana Road Crash, Urges Stricter Road Safety Enforcement

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has expressed profound grief following a fatal accident on the Lokoja-Obajana road that left 19 people dead including five children and eight others injured in the early hours of Monday.
Describing the accident as a heartbreaking tragedy, the Governor said the loss extended beyond the immediate families of the victims to the entire state.
The collision, which involved a Toyota Hummer Bus and a heavy-duty vehicle, was attributed to speeding and improper overtaking. Governor Ododo emphasized the urgent need for tougher traffic law enforcement and increased discipline among drivers.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, the Governor was quoted as saying: “Losing 19 lives, including innocent children, in one accident is a tragedy for which words cannot fully express our grief. Our hearts are heavy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected, and we must take urgent steps to prevent such sorrowful occurrences. Every life matters, and no journey is worth the risk of over speeding.”
He also acknowledged the prompt response of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police in rescuing those injured, offering his condolences to the bereaved families and wishing the injured a swift recovery as they receive treatment at medical facilities in the state.
Governor Ododo further advocated for intensified public awareness campaigns on road safety, particularly the risks associated with excessive speed. He directed the state’s Ministry of Information and Communications to partner with the FRSC to enhance educational outreach across Kogi.
He also underscored the importance of improved coordination among emergency response agencies to better handle such incidents in the future.
