His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, marks his first anniversary in office, a significant milestone that reflects his commitment to purposeful leadership and transformational governance. Since his inauguration, Governor Ododo has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to progressive and inclusive administration, guided by the principle of “placing round pegs in round holes.” This deliberate strategy ensures that competent individuals are appointed to positions that align seamlessly with their expertise. It also builds on the legacy of the immediate past New Direction Government led by Former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello, who prioritized merit-based appointments, resulting in remarkable progress during his tenure.

Over the past year, this strategic approach has been a cornerstone of Governor Ododo’s administration, fostering governance rooted in accountability, transparency, and measurable progress. His leadership has catalyzed positive changes across critical sectors, addressing challenges while unlocking the state’s immense potential for growth and development.

A notable area of impact has been the health sector. Governor Ododo’s administration has prioritized access to quality healthcare through comprehensive reforms, including the rehabilitation and construction of healthcare facilities. The administration has invested heavily in rejuvenating dilapidated primary healthcare centers and building new ones across the state. The recruitment of qualified medical personnel and the provision of modern equipment have significantly improved service delivery, not to talk of appointing capable hands to manage this all-important ministry! Notably, his administration enhanced the charge-free SSCE and JAMB examinations for students in public schools. Worthy of note also is the yet-hatch GOOSCARE, a pet project of the Forum for LSAs (Local Government Special Assistants) which has gained a warm and loud welcome from all and sundry and more importantly endorsed by His Excellency, Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo. This project seeks to provide succor to the vulnerable and indegent orphans in the society! This could be assumed to be the low-cost version of the Kogi State Social Investment Program Agency (KOSSIPA) where massive empowerments are ongoing to boost the living situations of the poorest of the poors and the neglected in the society.

Infrastructure development has been another top priority under Governor Ododo’s leadership. Significant progress has been made in the construction and rehabilitation of roads, the commencement of the International Airport project, and the establishment of the International Market near Zone 8 in Lokoja. These projects enhance connectivity, boost commerce, and improve residents’ quality of life. Beyond their practical benefits, these investments lay a solid foundation for sustainable economic growth.

Governor Ododo’s administration has worked diligently to foster unity among Kogi State’s diverse communities.
