Governor Ododo Flags Off Construction of Critical Infrastructure at Prince Abubakar Audu University Teaching Hospital

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, on Wednesday officially handed over sites for the construction of key infrastructure at the Prince Abubakar Audu University Teaching Hospital (PAAUTH), Anyigba, in a move aimed at repositioning medical education and healthcare delivery in the state.

The projects include the construction of new classrooms, a library, a multi-purpose medical laboratory, consultants’ offices, and the renovation of the existing clinical laboratory.

Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Ododo who was represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams described the event as a “significant step forward” in the state’s quest to restore lost medical accreditations, improve healthcare services, and foster research excellence. He noted that the loss of accreditation in 2015 forced the redistribution of medical students to other universities, a setback the current administration is determined to reverse.

“Our goal is to ensure that future generations of medical professionals are trained right here in Kogi State — in facilities that meet the highest standards of excellence,” Ododo said.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to consolidating on the achievements of his predecessor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, under whose tenure an ultra-modern clinical complex was established at the teaching hospital.

He urged the host community in Anyigba and other communities across the state to take ownership of public infrastructure, support government initiatives, and cooperate with contractors to ensure the smooth execution of the projects.

Governor Ododo assured that all projects will be completed within the year 2025 and charged contractors to uphold the highest standards of quality and professionalism.

The project sites were formally handed over to the following contractors: Multi-Purpose Medical Laboratory – Zack Ohiani and Affan Nig. Ltd; Classrooms and Library Block – Xenius Global Nig. Ltd and Consultants’ Offices Block – Logic Build Ltd

“These projects are not just about buildings, they are about lives, learning, and the legacy of quality healthcare in our State,” the governor emphasized.

Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to continue investing in life-impacting projects and called for continued support and prayers from the people of Kogi State.
