Hajia Sefinat Ododo’s Support Initiative for Ajaokuta Steel Township Women Records Massive Success

An empowerment and support programme for women leaders in Ajaokuta Steel Township, organised under the banner of Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo Support for Ajaokuta Steel Township Women Leaders, was successfully held on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Basesan’s Guest House, Ajaokuta.

The event attracted a large gathering of women leaders, party stakeholders, youths and members of the general public.

The programme was organised by the Convener, Adm. Musa Sandra, PhD, and was graced by the First Lady of Kogi State, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, who was represented by Hajiya Karimat Abdullahi, wife of the Honourable Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the State. She was accompanied by Mrs. Aishat Abanika, wife of the Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, and Hajiya Medina Umar Faruk, wife of the Honourable Commissioner for Water Resources.

Several prominent political and party leaders were present to receive the First Lady’s representative, adding prestige and political significance to the event. They included Hon. Sanni Abdulraheem, MBA, LLB, FCAI, FSAN, Member representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, and his wife, Hajiya Bilikisu Sanni Egidi; Hon. Suleiman Ibrahim, APC State Publicity Secretary; the APC Deputy Woman Leader of Ajaokuta Local Government; the APC Geregu Ward Chairman, Woman Leader and Secretary; the Steel Township Overall Chairman, Overall Woman Leader and Overall Youth Leader; Hon. Prince Mohammed Haruna Ganaja, APC Chairmanship candidate for the Local Government; Hon. Mukaila Geregu, Senior Special Assistant on Special Persons; and Hon. Munirat Bint Ibrahim, Senior Special Assistant on Women Entrepreneurship.

A major highlight of the programme was the distribution of food items, clothing materials and cash to women and other beneficiaries across Ajaokuta Steel Township.

In a further demonstration of compassion and commitment to grassroots women empowerment, the First Lady, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, supported the initiative with a donation of One Million Naira (₦1,000,000) to women at the community level.

The outreach also extended to youths of the Central Working Committee, Steel Township, Ajaokuta, who actively participated in and benefited from the initiative, underscoring the inclusive and people-focused nature of the programme.
Speaking at the event, the Member of the House of Representatives commended the women and youths for their continued loyalty to the party and assured them of greater dividends of good governance under the leadership of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.

Participants widely praised the First Lady for her compassionate leadership and sustained commitment to women and youth development across Kogi State, describing the intervention as timely, impactful and people-centred. The event further strengthened unity among women leaders and deepened grassroots support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ajaokuta Steel Township.

In her closing remarks, the Convener, Adm. Musa Sandra, PhD, expressed deep appreciation to all dignitaries, organisations, youth groups and participants for their overwhelming support. She noted that the success of the programme reflects the growing strength of community-driven development and women-led initiatives in the state.
