HYPPADEC Set to Distribute Starter Packs to 705 YTP Trainees in Kogi

The Hydroelectric Power Producing Development Commission HYPPADEC said it has concluded arrangements to distribute Starter packs to 705 trainees under her Youths Training Programs for the youths in the flood prone local Government Areas in Kogi state.

HYPPADEC disclosed this in a stakeholders meeting held on Thursday in Lokoja, Kogi state capital.

The stakeholders meeting which has the representatives of the traditional rulers, Security Agencies, Youths Council of Nigeria and some members of trainees in attendance, was to give updates on the procurement and distribution of the Starter packs to the beneficiaries who had been trained in various vocations trades and crafts.

The Managing Director of the Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa who was represented by the Director in Charge of Kogi, Alhaji Jimoh Haruna Gabi, assures the trainees that all the grey areas have been resolved, ready to commence the process of distribution within few weeks.

He explained that HYPPADEC which was established on the 15th January, 2021, swung into action by embarking on tours of hard to reach communities of Ibaji Local Government Area to conduct Needs Assesment which in form the deployment of materials based on peculiar needs of communities devastated by the floods.
He added that the Youths who are vital component of the intervention must be scale up to discourage them from anti social behaviours and be self reliant to enable them contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the society.
He said , for the society to leap into the future , its youths who are the leaders of tomorrow must be brought into the equation of National Development, hence, the YTP programmes was designed to build their capacities and hedge them from untoward behaviours.

“What we did was to send out forms for them to select the trades of their choices. We analyse and categorised them into various trades. Interestingly, majority of them selected Computer and ICT related trades. Others chose, Fashion and Tailoring, Hair dressing ; beads making , painting and graphics etc and in all we have 705 of them. They have all been trained.
” As part of our measures to ensure that the packs would not be diverted or sold, we gave them Guarantor forms which should be signed by the chiefs in their communities and we told them that we will hold them responsible if it was not put into proper used.

“Our intention for the training of these first set is to make them trainers and employer of labour. We will monitor them to ensure that our communities would soon witness Entrepreneurs.” He assured.

In a remark, the kogi state coordinator of HYPPADEC in Engineer , Joan Oguche , assured of prompt distribution of the starter kits and urged them to put the materials into productive use.
She commended the stakeholders for their commitment to the success of the commission.

She thanked Gov’Ododo for his relentless support and partnership with the commission.

Speaking for the traditional rulers, the Ohiegba of Mozum and Provost to Kogi state traditional council, HRH Alhaji Bukar Alih Khalid 11 praised the commission for its pragmatic approach to ameliorate the sufferings of the people within the jurisdiction.
He called on the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the starter packs to make them better persons in the society and thereby reducing social economic vices in the state.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Youth Council of Nigeria, kogi state council, Comrade Benjamin Jeremiah Ojodale. enjoined the beneficiaries not to sell or keep the kits at home rather to put them into productive use so as to be a better members of the society.
