The Executive Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna, delivered a poignant message during the grand coronation of His Royal Highness, Oba Sunday Adewumi, Ologe 1, as the Olu of Ayetoro Gbede. He emphasized the critical role of the traditional institution in managing the affairs of the people, particularly in areas concerning unity and security.
Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna described the coronation as more than just a celebration of culture, tradition, and leadership. It was also a call for renewed unity and shared prosperity for Ayetoro Gbede, Gbede Kingdom, and Ijumu as a whole. However, he raised concerns about the increasing number of strangers entering the communities due to visible development in Okun and Ijumu. He warned against the unchecked sales of community lands to outsiders, which could pose potential threats in the future.
In addressing these issues, the chairman urged Oba Sunday Adewumi, Ologe 1, to implement measures that ensure proper documentation, community involvement, and transparency in all land-related transactions. Protecting the ancestral heritage of Ayetoro Gbede and nearby communities was deemed a shared responsibility between the traditional institutions and local authorities, Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna concluded.
