“Investing in Sport Will Help Keep Youths Engaged” – KYDC Chair At 2nd Edition of Volleyball Competition
To support and encourage youths and sports development through participation in sporting activities as a means of dissuading young people from involving in social vices, the Chairman, Kogi Youth Development Commission, Mr. Lawal Ozomata James was in LGEA volleyball court to cheer the Asuku Spikers in the final of the male volleyball competition on Wednesday, 29th December, 2021.
The second edition of the volleyball competition which was organized by Agasa Community Youth had many dignitaries in attendance including the Hon. Olajide Onize Favour, SSA to Governor Yahaya Bello on Youth Empowerment (Central); Hon. Sunday Oni David, SSA on Industry and Productivity; Hon. Prince Adinoyi Suleiman and Hon. Kekere Elijah both Special Assistants to the Governor on Grassroot Sensitization among others.
The final between the Agasa volleyball club vs Asuku Spikers started exactly 4pm at the LGEA Volleyball Court. The Agasa team won the first set before the rejuvenated Asuku Spikers came from behind to win the next 3 sets to clinch the trophy for the second time.
Mr. James who spoke to our correspondent after the game expressed satisfaction in the level of competitiveness between the two finalists. “I am highly delighted and impressed with the level and skill on display here this evening. It goes to confirm that our Youths are capable of many things. All they need is encouragement from both government and especially the private sector to key into Sports Development and ensure that a lot of Youths are occupied.” This he said will divert their attention from restiveness and vices that are inimical to their growth and the societies’.
“You can see the number of Youths here to witness this event. All expressing happiness and enjoying the game in unity. That is what sports can do. The Kogi Youth Development Commission is ready to partner in activities like this in every nook and cranny of the State.”
“I am using the avenue to appeal to well meaning individuals and corporate organization to organize and sports activities like this that will help tame the adrenal of the young boys and girls.”
The colourful event ended with the presentation of medals and trophies to the winners.
