“Jobs, Growth, Access: The Real Impact of Kogi International Airport”
By Unubi Emmanuel
The decision by the Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, to build an airport in the state is a very important step for development. The project, which has been given to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, is not just about building an airport, it is about improving the future of Kogi State.
For many years, the state has not had its own airport. Residents and other people traveling in and out of the state via air, usually pass through Abuja or other states. In few special cases, the VIP’s make use of Obajana Airstrip. This makes their trips stressful, slow, and expensive. Building an airport will solve this problem and make life easier for everyone.
Bothering about ten states, Kogi State is in the middle of Nigeria. It connects the North and the South. Because of this, having an airport in the state will help many people from different parts of the country travel more easily. It can even reduce pressure on airports in nearby states.
An airport brings many opportunities. Aside the manual labor during the construction, It will create jobs for young people, It will help farmers and traders move their goods faster, It will attract investors and businesses to the state, When investors can easily fly into Kogi, they are more likely to bring businesses that will grow the economy, It Will Make Movement Faster and Easier.
Right now, if one is to travel by land from Lagos, Borno, or Cross Rivers to Kogi by road, it can take many hours. With an airport, people can arrive in a short time. This will help Business people, Government officials, Visitors, emergency services and many other travelers.
Like you know, it is not the benevolence of a carpenter that makes him construct furnitures. It is for money. Airport is not just for travel alone, it will also generate income. Money will come from Flight operations, Cargo services, Shops and businesses around the airport. Which means the project can help the state generate more revenue in the long run.
The airport is a long-term investment. It may take some time to finish, but when completed, it will open many doors for Kogi State. It will bring development, improve the economy, and make the state more distinguished in the committee of states in Nigeria.
This initiative of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is a smart and forward-looking one. It will make life easier for the people, create jobs, and bring growth to the state. In other words, the airport is not just a project, it is a gateway to a better future for Kogi State.
Instead of questioning the need for the airport, Kogites should rise to the occasion and praise the Governor for embarking on this laudable project that has the potential of turning the fortunes of the state.
