Just In: Governor Ododo Directs Immediate Compliance with Nomination of Ward Special Assistants

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has called for the immediate submission of nominations for Ward Special Assistants (WSA), emphasizing the importance of grassroots representation in his administration.

Earlier this year, Governor Ododo directed each ward to nominate three individuals, including at least one woman, to serve as WSAs. This initiative aims to strengthen the connection between the government and the local communities, ensuring effective feedback and representation.

In a statement personally signed by the governor on Monday, May 20th and obtained by InsideStory, Governor Ododo stated that his administration is committed to bringing governance closer to the people, stressing that WSAs must live within their communities, understand and address local needs directly.

While several wards and local government areas have complied, others are delaying the process. Governor Ododo expressed concern that some nominations include individuals residing in distant cities like Kaduna, Abuja, and Lagos, which contradicts the grassroots intent of the initiative.

“Delays and attempts to nominate non-resident individuals are unacceptable,” the Governor warned.

He has given the non-compliant wards until the end of May to submit their lists. To ensure authenticity, a Fact-Finding Team will visit all 239 wards to verify the nominees and, if necessary, organize ward meetings to facilitate proper nominations.

Governor Ododo reiterated his commitment to grassroots representation, aligning with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He urged prompt action to avoid external intervention in the nomination process.

“Our administration remains firm on its path to inclusive and community-based governance, prioritizing local stakeholders in decision-making,” he concluded.
