Kogi Auditor General of Local Govt, Ododo distributes 11,000 science textbooks to schools
The Kogi state Ministry of Education through the adoption and mentorship programme, flagged off the distribution of 11,000 science textbooks to 44 Government recognised secondary schools across Kogi central senatorial District.
The programme which was sponsored by the Kogi State’s Local Government, Auditor General, Alhaji Usman Ododo as part of his personal contribution to the educational development of the state.
Gov. Yahaya Bello who was represented by Hon Wemi Jones, the commissioner for Education, Science and Technology reinstated his commitment in championing the advancement of Education in Kogi State which is part of the focal point of his New Direction led administration.
He added that education was a top priority in the state with a budget allocation of 30% in the 2022 fiscal allocation as compared to UNESCO’s Education benchmark of 26% and therefore stated that this has enhanced the sector’s performance and accomplishment
Speaking further in his own capacity, the education Commissioner stated that education becomes difficult without the necessary text and materials to aid learning, thus the need for the publication of these Science textbooks, particularly Physics and Chemistry. He therefore stated that with the distribution of these texts, students in Kogi state will be able to keep up with the advancement in learning, particularly in science, that has transformed the world in recent times.
He thanked Alhaji Usman for sponsoring the publication of 11,000 textbooks to be distributed across the three senatorial districts of the state noting that “ With Science Education, our children can lead at any world stage”
Hon Jones assured that the textbooks are totally free for students in secondary schools especially those in SS2 and therefore warned that the distributed text are not to be sold or hoard by principals or staffs while calling on well-meaning citizens to join hands with the government in ensuring that education is given the appropriate priority to secure a better future for Kogi State.
Speaking Earlier, Dr. Animoku Ahman Elizabeth, the Director, Planning Research and Statistics noted that the textbooks had been thoroughly reviewed by the ministry through the Quality Assurance department, and were certified suitable for students’ use. She said Education is the key that will open the door to positive prospects for a brighter future for Kogites and therefore commended the ministry for the wonderful initiative of the school adoption and mentorship programme which gives individuals the opportunity to assist in giving quantitative and qualitative education to students and pupils in schools across Kogi State.
Dr. Elizabeth also applauded Hon Wemi Jones for providing visionary leadership to the ministry of education especially with the provision of 11,000 science textbooks to students in secondary schools across the three senatorial districts while noting that with the provision of these texts, students will be encouraged to go deep into “STEM” ( Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) which is the leading sector of the world today.
In his goodwill message, the Ohi of Adavi, speaking on behalf of all traditional rulers, praised Gov Yahaya Bello for being an all-rounder, particularly in his prioritization of education in Kogi State, noting that “the fastest way to destroy a society is to collapse the Educational Sector,” and Gov Bello has not failed in that sector.
The Ohi, therefore appealed to philanthropists to assist the government in ensuring that Kogites receive quality education, while appealing to Hon Wemi Jones the Commissioner of Education to include other science subjects, such as mathematics, in the next publications to be distributed.
Master Emmanuel Omeiza Victor of the LGEA Demonstration College on behalf of the students thanked Gov Yahaya Bello, Hon Wemi Jones, Alhaji Usman Ododo for providing science text to aid their learning and promised to be good students while being obedient to the instructions of their teachers.
