Kogi Government Launches Anti-Fraud Awareness Campus Tour »

The Kogi State Government has launched the Kogi Anti-Fraud Awareness Campus Tour, a public enlightenment initiative aimed at addressing the rising concerns over fraudulent activities among young people.

The programme is spearheaded by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Fraud and Internet Matters, led by Hon. Oluseyi Kelvin Eleta, under the administration of Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.

The initiative is being implemented in partnership with two key stakeholders: Hon. Munirat Bint Ibrahim, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Entrepreneurship, and Hon. Clement Daudu, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Private Education Institutions.

Both offices are supporting the coordination and outreach components of the programme, particularly in facilitating engagement with students and youth groups across tertiary institutions.

The Campus Tour will feature a series of engagements across universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education in the state. Activities will include lectures, open discussions, and interactive sessions designed to educate students on the dangers and legal consequences of internet fraud. The programme will also highlight legitimate digital opportunities and encourage young people to pursue lawful and productive ventures online.

Speaking on the initiative, Hon. Eleta noted that the campaign is anchored on the belief that education and awareness remain effective tools in preventing fraud.

He observed that many young people are often influenced by misleading narratives that portray internet crime as a quick route to wealth. According to him, the tour aims to correct such misconceptions by exposing the legal, social, and economic consequences associated with fraudulent activities.

The programme will bring together law enforcement officials, legal practitioners, technology experts, and public policy professionals who will engage directly with students. Their contributions are expected to provide deeper insights into cyber laws, the risks of online crime, and the importance of ethical conduct in today’s digital economy.

Organisers also intend to encourage students to become advocates of integrity and responsible innovation, noting that institutions of higher learning play a crucial role in shaping the values and decisions of future leaders.

The Kogi Anti-Fraud Awareness Campus Tour will be conducted in phases and is expected to cover major tertiary institutions across the state. Through the initiative, the Office of the Senior Special Assistant on Fraud and Internet Matters seeks to strengthen public awareness, promote lawful conduct, and foster collaboration among government, educational institutions, and young people in the fight against fraud.
